Every so often events and my persepctive on life align in such a way that a truly wonderful experience is generated. Today was one of those times, and while there are still nearly eight hours left, I feel confident in saying that it’s been fantastic.
Rachel took off from her Marriott job today in order to make her 10:30 dentist appointment. Since she didn’t have to get up nearly as early, we had a relatively leisurly morning. After sleeping in a few extra hours, we went for a brisk morning walk around our neighborhood and ate breakfast together. Later, we met up at UMBC’s Chick-fil-A for lunch with TimK. Once we’d eaten, I convinced Rachel to go to my Jim Thomas philsophy class on ethics with me. Jim Thomas is by far one of the greatest professors at UMBC—his classes are like a one-man improv show. Rachel enjoyed herself and afterward we had a little while to read and be romantic before she had to leave for her second job. The whole time we were at UMBC we kept bumping into people we knew, which added a little social icing to the confection.
It’s always nice to have time to spend with Rachel, since most of our week consists of running hither and thither before collasping into bed. It was also especially nice to have Rachel share in part of my day, perhaps because I could indulge my fantasy of the two of us attending the same college. Seriously though, days like this are one of the little joys about being married to your soulmate. Excellent, indeed.
