Matter, Energy, and Life of Michaela A. Castello.

Fire Study by Maria V. Synder

I don’t know if I’m happier that I finished this book or that I’m finally pushing at least one of the Inheritance books off of my bookshelf display.

Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I really liked the way Poison Study combined a fascist regime with a world of magic, and I would have liked to see more of that in this book. The first two books were focused on contrasting aspects of combat, culture, and government, and this book tried to tie those things together.

While it did a good job of wrapping up the story and explained some great details about how the world and the magic within it work, it was more of a continuation of Magic Study than a standalone story. It also didn’t have quite as much to do with studying fire as the title suggested. I think Mrs. Snyder did a good job at writing the plot and developing Yelena’s character, I just would have liked to see a bit more exploration of the two governing systems and the secondary characters.

I…would have liked to see a bit more exploration of the two governing systems and the secondary characters.

This is a decent conclusion to an enjoyable series and I appreciate the fact that Mrs. Snyder ended the story when it should rather than trying to draw it out excessively. If the first book grabs your attention, the next two are definitely worth checking out as well. Also, it’s encouraging to see an author who isn’t afraid of the internet.
