Playlist Victory

I have established a bit of a policy that when I get new music I have to listen to it at least once. This was working well until my music collection increased 50% in nearly one go last fall. My “New Music” playlist became huge, and coupled with various new additions it has taken a long time to whittle down. This morning, I listened to the last song on that list—victory!

This freed me up to move on to a prior music project: listening to every song in my library at least once. I have a smart playlist set up for songs that have no last played date attached to them. Unfortunately since some of this music spans more than the last decade of my life, I have a lot of songs that I know I’ve listened to before but metadata-wise have never been played. Presumably due to iTunes crashes, even some of the music removed from my “New Music” playlist is listed as never played—I have my “work” cut out for me.

This afternoon I began by adding the Relient K discography to my iPod. While at work today I’ve been listening to some great songs, amplified by the happy summery memories their early albums elicit. It’s also neat to see how the band has evolved between albums.

It’s also scary to realize that I was listening to them when they came out in the late 90s. I just keep feeling older and older…
